SeizurePad

Current eHealth tools for seizure management do not support the parents and caregivers of those with complex epilepsy. These individuals need to record huge volumes of data but the existing market fails to address this need. This presents challenges for the analysis of the patient and the communication between the caregivers and clinicians begins to break down.

SeizurePad was a proof of concept to assess whether the user interface of a mobile application can assist in the input of data and reduce the cognitive workload on parents and caregivers of those with epilepsy. By presenting the data visually the parent and caregiver is able to bridge the communication gap with the clinicians.

The nine-month project worked with a variety of stakeholders for the mobile application to design and test the mobile app. Through an iterative approach, an application was delivered which satisfied the minimum viable product of the seizure management tool as defined by the end users. The involvement of the users throughout the project assisted in developing an app whose interface supported them in their caring role.

Development of SeizurePad is underway and it is hoped to be released into both the Apple and Android app stores by the 19th ofJune 2014.The basic functionality is working now but we are just doing some extra testing to make sure it is reliable and stable. We will update this page with more information if necessary. For more information about the project and how the involvement of end users in the development of SeizurePad has been invaluable, you can get in contact with Heather R.Ellis.
